The Children's University™ and Me: Romeo and Juliet at Doncaster Children's University™

Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' at Doncaster Children's University™

Some twenty CU students from Lakeside Primary School are the latest children to take part in the scheme – starting off the term learning about Britain’s best-known playwright. The students, aged 7 to 11, were taught about Shakespeare’s work by lecturer Roger Cairns and acted out some of his play Romeo and Juliet at Doncaster Children's University™.

Roger said: “It’s great to see children getting involved in drama at a young age. It is a great way for them to express themselves and have a bit of fun.”

Doncaster Children’s University Project Director Linda Ward said: “The children volunteer for the project and we have had 100% attendance from the pupils from Lakeside Primary School. They have built positive relationships with their mentors, who play a vital role in the delivery of the project.”

The project aims to raise children’s and young people’s achievements, attainment, aspirations and self-esteem through enjoyable, exciting and ‘hands on’ positive learning modules. Modules take place at various venues across Doncaster.

Pupils from Stirling Primary School are also currently taking part in the Children’s University. Both schools will be joined in the project by pupils from Town Field School in the New Year.
